J.P. Friday posted two career-best jumps to help Colonial's boys win the Brian Jaeger Elite Classic Saturday

 

Colonial's J.P. Friday got a late start on track and field season because he was a standout for a boys basketball team that won its district and advanced in the playoffs. He's catching up fast as another postseason approaches.He's catching up fast as another postseason approaches.

The lanky senior posted two career-best jumps on Saturday to help the Grenadiers roll to victory at the Brian Jaeger Elite Classic. Friday triple jumped 48-feet, 5-inches, easily tops in the area this season, and tied the area best in the high jump when he cleared a bar set at 6-6.

"I still feel like I've got more in the tank," Friday said. "I think I can do more."

He'll long jump, triple jump and high jump at next Thursday's Class 4A, District 4 meet at Showalter Field.

Evans won the girls team crown with Medjina Saint Fleur winning both throws.

Three meet records fell in breezy, cloud-covered conditions.
